The AIS (Alabama Institutional Serial) number field takes precedence in all searches. The AIS number is the unique six-digit number assigned to each inmate incarcerated by the ADOC and represents the quickest way to find a particular inmate. If you enter data in the AIS number field, the only record shown will be the one where the AIS number in the database exactly matches the data you’ve entered. The First Name and Last Name fields are ignored anytime data is entered in the AIS Number search field.

The First and Last name search fields can be used separately or in conjunction to find inmate records. If data is entered in both name fields, only records matching both fields will be shown. The data entered in these fields is used in an open-ended search of the inmate records. In other words, if you only enter char in the last name field, you will see all inmates with the last names beginning with those four letters.
The maximum number of records that will be displayed at one time is 50. If your search results in more than 50 matching records, only the first 50, in name order, will be shown.
